When is a car useful?
A car is especially useful if you plan to move between places: Tavira to the east, or Albufeira and Lagos to the west, are possible bases. For a few days in central Faro, compare transfer and parking costs too. Renting only for the days you explore may make more sense than paying for a car that stays parked throughout your stay.
Prepare your airport collection
Offers listed at FAO may use a desk, a meeting point or a shuttle to an off-airport office. Read the collection section for your actual offer and keep the instructions available offline. Provide your flight number when requested and check what happens if you arrive after the booked time. An airport name alone does not describe the service.
Choose your car and understand the costs
A compact may suit two people, but do not infer boot space from the seat count. For a family, check large suitcases, child seats and the space remaining. Include parking at your accommodation and any route-specific charges. For motorways, ask which tolls apply to your chosen route and what administration fees the supplier charges.
The detail not to miss
A detour into Spain needs the supplier’s permission; proximity to the border is not permission.
Questions before you book
Should I rent as soon as I arrive in Faro?
Not necessarily. Compare a full-stay rental with renting just for excursions, including transfers and parking. The right choice depends on your accommodation and journeys.
Does a low rental rate mean a low deposit?
No. The rental price and security deposit are different amounts. Check the payment conditions and the available limit on the main driver’s card.
